Discharge Day!

Tuesday night was another good night. The staff was excellent about coming in quietly, not turning on lights, and getting out of the room as quick as possible. If it wasn't for the noisy latch on the door, they would've been in and out without waking me. Drew was urinating so much that his sheets had to be changed 3 times that night. The pull-ups couldn't hold it all. Other than that, he seemed very comfortable. The Doctor came in at 6:30 and said that we could leave today if we wanted to. As comfortable as the hospital stay had been, we were definitely ready to be home! We decided to go after lunch, during his normal nap time in hopes that he would sleep & go potty in the pull-up instead of stopping every time he needed to go potty.

The dietary staff got quite a quick out of our order for pancakes for breakfast. They sent 4 silver dollar pancakes - it was cute and the most he had eaten the whole time.

Yearning for the "outside"

We resorted to bribery to get the medicine in him. The bribe this time was ice cream - his last treat before going home.

Tim's really going to miss this mobile TV and the Reds playing on TV (we don't have cable, so he almost never gets to see them on TV)

All packed up and ready to go home. I'm not sure what the pouty face was about because he was really excited to leave.

He only slept about 20 minutes on the way home, but he did cooperate and go potty in the pull-up. He seemed happy to be home & we were certainly glad to be there. The days since being home are filled with trying to keep him from over-doing it so he doesn't have a lot of pain later. The nights are filled with trying to keep him dry & comfortable. He slept on our floor the first night so that I could keep an eye/ear open for him. Last night he slept in the sunroom which is about 20 feet from our bed. I have ended up being up about 3 times in the night to give him meds &/or change his diaper so it doesn't leak through. He goes right back to sleep, so it isn't too bad. He did vomit today, which was one of the complications we were to watch for. We are so thankful to report that it was a one-time occurrence and was likely related to taking his medicine on an empty tummy. He still isn't eating very much, but he's drinking sufficiently and urinating well, so it's OK.
