So this is all about Lizzie's trip to Florida back in Feb/March of 2006. We were able to secure a condo in St. Augustine from a friend at church. We didn't really care where we went, just wanted to be somewhere warmer than Indiana!
Sunday, Feb. 26, we flew from Indy to Atlanta to Jacksonville. Lizzie was SO excited to be on her first flight & finished a week's worth of homework! When we got to the condo, we walked down to the beach and she saw the ocean for the first time! It was already close to sunset, so no swimming; besides, it was crazy windy - she quickly learned that you don't throw sand in that kind of wind.
Monday, Tim and Lizzie went golfing, which meant that I got to READ ALL DAY! It was awesome!
Tuesday, Tim went golfing. Lizzie & I walked to a nail salon and got manicures & pedicures. She felt SO grown up! I caught her staring at her fingernails often that week! As the day warmed up, we also went to the outside pool and tiptoed in the ocean. She enjoyed "chasing" the waves.
Wednesday, we got her up at 5:00 and took off. She had no idea where we were going. We had told her that we were too far away from Disney, so she wasn't expecting to go. About an hour into the drive she saw a sign for Orlando, or something, that tipped her off. It was a great surprise! It was a very fun day. Her favorite rides were Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Space Mountain - notice the mountain theme going on? What happened to the 1st born not being very risky?! It was quite funny when she realized that "Disney" meant the characters & themes from disney movies. She kept saying things like, "look, there's Cinderella, or there's Buzz Light Year" like she was surprised to see them! I'd never really thought about what she thought Disney WAS exactly! We were more than 2 hours from our condo and we were exhausted! We had arranged to stay with some friends in Orlando for the night. We didn't have to tell her to go to sleep more than once!
Thursday, we slept in a bit - thanks, Brianna, for loaning us your room! Dave & Nancy were on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ when we were at BSU. Dave discipled Tim for 5 years. They have since moved to Orlando and work at the CCC headquarters in staff support. So we stayed with them - thanks, guys! On Thursday morning, Dave took us to CCC HQ and gave us a tour. We had no idea that it was all so big and so many departments. If you've never checked out CCC, it's an awesome ministry. After that, we went to Wet'n Wild in Orlando. It was a perfect 82 degrees & we had a blast! Lizzie said, "This is the best day ever!" I said I thought yesterday (Disney) was the best day ever and she said they were both the best day ever!
Friday, we recovered from the previous 2 days! We did swim in the indoor pool since it had cooled off.
Saturday, Tim went to the Golf Hall of Fame and Lizzie and I went to the mall. We watched a movie, Eight Below, about some dogs stranded somewhere really cold.
Sunday, we headed home.
Just in case you were wondering, I did have to consult my scrapbook and Lizzie's scrapbook to remember the details of the trip. Isn't it amazing what you're sure you'll never forget?!
So there you have it, Lizzie - hopefully you'll be happy now, at least until the next "injustice" occurs! :) Needless to say, Lizzie has grown and changed a LOT since March of 2006 - see banner picture. We're so proud of her & love watching her grow & mature, especially in her relationship with the Lord. We love you, Lizzie!
And another thanks to all 4 grandparents for watching Will & Theo while we were gone (Drew wasn't here yet!). Enjoy the pictures!
